When I asked a friend who worked as a hand therapist for a recommendation, Dr. Klein was at the top of the list. My problem was dupuytrens contracture. Dr. Klien suggested a  Needle Aponeurotomy which was a simple, fast, mostly painless procedure. I'm glad I went with that, rather than collagenase injections [saving my fellow taxpayers 1000s of dollars, and myself possible complications]. Problem 90% solved after less than 15 minutes. I was impressed with the doctor and his one person office staff, Kimberly. I was called back to the exam room less than 10 minutes after my appointment time, when something amazing and shocking occured. Dr. Klein apologized for being late! I've never had that happen before, even when I'm seen much later than 10 minutes. His bedside manner is excellent, friendly, with clear explanations. His stand alone practice is a nice change from the large corporate medical groups that dominate our area.

I’ve had he best care from Dr. Klein. He has helped control my dupuyrens contracture with needle aponeuotomy procedures. It sounds like it’s major stuff but it is not. I have come in with 60+ degree curls in my finger and walked out in 30 minutes or less with a near straight finger. Both times I went straight to work on roofs the same day, not by choice but none the less I still was able to. With religious stretching afterward the finger works well. Short of the major surgery, the needle procedure has been amazing for me and may be for you too. Please consult Dr Stefan Klein to see if this could work for you. Half an hour to straighten a finger was a no brainer for me.

I hardly need to comment on what a gifted surgeon Dr. Klein is because the other reviews proves this point. What the other reviews don’t reveal is how understanding, kind and straightforward Dr. Klein is as a human being for an active patient such as myself who was not looking forward to being in the necessary cast and underlying pin for six weeks. Every step from first meeting, pre-op, surgery day, wound check, cast setting & finally cast/pin removal, he was like a magician discussing and performing my uncomfortable situation with ease and reassurance. My hand therapist even commented how impressive my incision looked! I highly recommend Dr. Klein and his excellent office coordinator Kimberly. Like Dr. Klein she is a wizard not only scheduling appointments while the phone is ringing constantly, but also skillfully schedules surgeries and bills insurances all while kindly greeting new and old patients. Thanks so much!

I had my dupuytrens contracture painlessly reduced in 15 min in the office. Apparently I was in perfect candidate not every hand is the same. I experienced 2/10 pain no incision. I had been dealing with this hand deformity for years and it had recently become worse. This procedure was not offered by two prior doctors that had looked at my hand. Dr Klein is professional, polite and knowledgeable. I'm very impressed. I've been a nurse for 30 years. This is a very professional and pleasant hand specialist physician.

Dr. Klein and his office manager, Kimberly, are among the last great hold-outs of non-corporate personable medical practice. I was struggling with phone trees trying to find a local hand specialist, and Kimberly was the only human I ever connected with. She got me in the same week to see Dr.Klein. He was kind, professional, prompt, and any other good word I could think of. I cannot say enough good things, but yes, go here, highly recommended!

My experience with Dr Klein is that he is skilled, caring and compassionate. I have Dupuytren's Contracture in my picky finger; although not terrible, it began to really annoy me. Dr Klein explained my options for treatment and we proceeded with least invasive in-office procedure first. He was very gentle and explained everything as he doing. The procedure was over in no time with very little pain. After about a month of therapy, ive had great results and the contracture has been corrected.  Very impressed. Highly recommend Dr Klein.

I highly recommend Hand Surgeon, Dr. Stefan Klein.  On 12/18/2020, Dr. Klein performed outpatient surgery to my badly deformed right hand.  The thumb and second finger had extensive joint damage due to rheumatoid arthritis.  My hand had been hurting for years.
Dr. Klein stabilized the thumb  repaired the second finger with an artificial joint.  Surgery lasted one morning.   Postoperative care was easy and kind.  Dr. Klein was available by phone the next day and in case of emergency.  He cared by calling me to ask how I was feeling after surgery.  That was nice.
My right hand has healed perfectly with therapy.  The thumb is straight and functional without pain.  The second finger flexes and extends well without pain.  My grip strength has fully returned.   Dr. Klein and I have had several follow-up appointments since surgery.  He takes x-rays in his office and it's fast.  The x-rays show a job well done.   I am fully satisfied with the surgery of 12/18/2020

Dr. Klein's professional skills are beyond question.  His extensive education and practical experience in his chosen specialty combined with his personal, patient oriented interactions ease the anxiety of needing medical treatment.
At the office, he's on time for scheduled appointments.  He greets patients personally and warmly, addressing them with respect and engaging in friendly conversation. He gives as much time as necessary --listening attentively, providing information about possible treatments, and fully addressing the patient's questions and concerns with kindness and compassion.  A big plus is x-rays can be taken immediately.  After treatment, he emphasizes the importance of follow-up and the office staff helps with the necessary appointments.  When surgery is scheduled, he meets with the patient before going into the OR and before discharge reviews the results and discusses expected recovery.  He even provides a 24 hour phone number for the patient's peace of mind.
Due to  many office visits and surgeries with Dr. Klein, I am able to use my hands without pain. I unconditionally recommend Dr. Klein.

Highly recommend Dr Kline. He performed my carpal tunnel surgery.  Presurgery consultation was very informative, answered all my questions and concerns. Very interactive during and after surgery. Called me at home for post surgery check in. Provided contact numbers for concerns at anytime. Very personable and Professional Surgeon. Most importantly am experiencing great relief from neuropathy symptoms caused by carpal tunnel.

As a retired dentist I can really appreciate Dr.  Klein's surgical skills and knowledge.  Technically very skilled and knowledgeable.  He has done surgery on my elbow to reposition my ulnar nerve.  That has turned out well.  I have had previous surgery on my left index finger which was cut through the nerve and ligament, and on each hand for Dupitrin's contracture.  My wife had him treat a broken left hand and on a separate occasion a broken right wrist. He does an excellent job educating his patients.
I was referred to him some years ago by another hand surgeon in the area for my ulnar nerve surgery.  I am thankful to that Dr. for the referral.  I can highly recommend Dr. Klein  .

Doctor Klein is amazing. Thanks to his surgical skills I now have a fully functioning right hand and wrist. Doctor Klein is a very intelligent man with great credentials. Just take a look at his background and education. I highly recommend Doctor Klein. It is so nice to live without severe pain again. He is kind, caring and thoughtful. I did my research and found the right doctor for me.

I am now 5 months post surgery (trapezial excision/hematoma distraction arthroplasty. I am so pleased with the outcome. I'm able to painlessly do so many things I've been unable to do for years. From as simple as zipping a zipper & hooking my own bra to kayaking. I highly recommend Dr Klein for his expertise & great bedside manner. Thank you so much Dr!!!

I am VERY impressed with Dr Klein.  I had a cycling accident 10 years ago that resulted in dupuytrens contracture. Dr Klein was able to do a procedure called aponeurotomy. It fixed my hand in one visit. I can now straighten it. Dr Klein gave a thorough explanation of the options including what to expect from the procedure. I would highly recommend Dr Klein.

Dr Klein has treated my carpal tunnel and trigger finger problems for over 5 years, and he has done wonders.
I cannot recommend him highly enough.  He is the "go to" guy in Santa Cruz for hand/wrist/arm problems.

Dr. Klein is the total professional. By training, temperament and technique, Dr. Klein is at the top of his game. I was more than totally satisfied with the procedure I received and the personal care I got. I can't say enough for him and would recommend him to ALL. He is outstanding!

Dr. Klein and his office assistant, Brianna, expedited an overdue wrist surgery that another doctor had said didn't need surgery. Without their prompt response, my wife's wrist would probably have been severely limited down the road with unnecessarily severe arthritis.

I can't say enough how grateful we are to Dr. Klein and Brianna for their compassion, service, and professionalism.

I'd give them 10 stars if I could.

9/5/2017
Preface:  I have Dupuytren's contracture, a common genetic disorder that results in my inability to fully extend my ring and little fingers.  It is a chronic disorder and all the treatment options mostly result in temporary freedom of movement.  When it got bad enough to interfere with my function, I had open fasciotomy surgery by a different hand surgeon (not Dr. Klein) who was excellent.  But, I was incapacitated for 4 weeks post-op, it hurt like hell, and as is often the case, my contracture was worse after fully healing. So I looked for a physician who does a release technique called "needle aponeurotomy". (You can look it up on Google) Like the other techniques, NA may not be a durable fix, (it may be the least durable), but it is close to painless, minimally invasive, and only limits hand use for a day or three. That's what I wanted. But, it turns out that physicians are not paid well for NA compared to the other methods (open surgery or enzyme injections) of cutting the fibrous cords in the hand and, thus, few hand specialists offer NA.  I was sitting on a recommendation from my prior hand surgeon to have enzyme injections, but it sounded to gnarly and risky.

My wife found Dr. Klein because she had injured her thumbs. I was with her for her visit and asked Dr. Klein, "Oh, by the way, do you do NA?" He said "I do.", and took a peek at my crooked finger.  I returned that week. He was very kind and thorough explaining the entire procedure. The procedure is done in the office with a simple injection needle. It was fast and painless. I was waxing my car the next day. That was two months ago; my little finger remains fully straightened out.

I was very impressed that Dr. Klein set aside the financial incentive to do the more costly and invasive techniques, and did the simplest effective treatment. As well, he took time with me to discuss the alternatives in detail, knowing this is a chronic and recurring ailment. I found him to be compassionate, very smart, exceedingly well trained, and a steady hand. I am a Registered Nurse with a long acute care hospital career. I know good care when I see it.

I'm not a very nice patient and it takes a lot to to calm my fear of doctors. I worried needlessly. Immediately after surgery, I was given Dr Klein's home and cell numbers and was told to call him directly if I had any questions or problems! What a luxury, to be able to speak directly with my surgeon at any sign of trouble! Of course, I had no trouble. Dr Klein set my two spiral fractures so perfectly that at 8 weeks from surgery, almost no evidence of a break could be seen. At three months, I now have 90% of my mobility. (A note to all: physical therapy is a MUST post hand surgery!)

The office is always calm and on time. Xrays are done in the office and immediately available. The new office has plenty of parking. I received the best care at the surgical center that I have ever received --and I have had several major surgeries including two hip replacements.

Hand surgery is a tricky business; I recommend Dr Klein without reservation.

Over the past few years, Dr. Klein has performed four separate successful surgeries on my hands.  From the first, I have been confident in his knowledge, skill and communication on the issues I've had.  Dr. Klein has provided excellent follow-up care; he is always courteous and professional and I would not hesitate to consult with him for future treatment, including surgery, and would highly recommend him to anyone in need of care.  Also, the surgical staff thinks very highly of him!

Please do your research before seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon. I did. My wife and I have had numerous health issues over our long lives and so I have learned a lot about choosing a competent doctor. I have been seeing Doctor Klein for over a year now and I feel that he is an outstanding physician and surgeon. And he is also a kind and caring man.

My first visit was perfect. Doctor Klein first x-rayed my hands in his office. Then we spent quite a bit of time discussing all of my treatment options, including possible surgery. We decided that we would start with a series of cortisone injections in the hopes that it may give some relief from my pain. I did not want to take any more pain medications. Well, the injections worked. I no longer have extreme pain in my hands and wrists!

Doctor Klein is extraordinary! My entire life has been changed for the better! I highly recommend Doctor Klein!

Dr. Klein has been extremely helpful for the recuperation of my thumb after a power tool accident. His calm demeanor and wise council for making sure I gained the best possible outcome were very helpful during a stressful period of uncertainty. I am very grateful for his expertise.

I was referred by my M.D. to see Dr. Klein for a lump on my right hand.  It had gotten larger and was causing discomfort.  I contacted Dr. Klein's office and the receptionist was courteous and helpful.

I met with Dr. Klein and he was knowledgeable and thorough. He had a calming manner and took time to explain my options and to fully answer my questions. He treated me with respect and did not rush me.

I'm thrilled that my surgery went very well and my hand is healing beautifully. It's obvious to me that Dr. Klein is passionate about his work and dedicated to providing positive outcomes for his patients. He is a meticulous and excellent surgeon and a very kind man.  Thank you Dr. Klein!

This delightful hand-specialist is a caring, competent doctor and a lovely person. I have seen him a number of times and am always impressed by his humble, easy way. He has administered cortisone shots to my hands, as well as one carpal-tunnel surgery, which turned out fine.

HIGHLY recommend!

I'm going back to him for another hand problem. He's The Man.
